Webcam studio Cluj-Napoca: what the studio takes, and how to work for yourself
The short answer
A studio puts you on the same sites you can join yourself, for free. But the studio keeps about half of your money, sometimes more, and often keeps your account too. Below we compare both options honestly and show you how to start on your own in Cluj-Napoca.

If you are looking for a webcam studio in Cluj-Napoca, you have probably already decided to try camming. And you think you cannot do it alone: no equipment, no experience, weak English, nobody to explain how it works. Studios count on exactly that.
Here is what they rarely tell you at the interview. A studio works on the same sites you can join yourself, for free. The only real difference is who gets the money. On this page we compare both paths honestly, and we also say when a studio does make sense.
Studio or on your own: the honest comparison
| In a studio | On your own | |
|---|---|---|
| Who gets the money from the site | The studio. It takes its cut and pays you the rest | You, directly |
| What you keep from the same tips | Usually about half. In reported cases, 30 to 70 percent goes to the studio | 100 percent of the payout |
| Account and followers | Often the studio creates and controls the account. Many models could not take it with them when they left | Yours, under your own email and ID |
| Schedule | Shifts, minimum hours and, in many studios, fines for being late | You pick your days and hours |
| Contract | Often a minimum term and fines, sometimes an exit fee. Read every line | None. You can pause or stop any day |
| Room and equipment | Provided | Your own room, a phone or laptop, a light |
| Training and support | Provided, but the quality varies a lot | Free guides, platform support, this site |
| Privacy | Studio staff see your shows and your earnings | Only you see them. You can block your own country and region |

The same 1,000 tokens, three results
Chaturbate pays broadcasters 0.05 USD per token. Say viewers tip you 1,000 tokens in an evening.
On your own, you get 50 USD. In a studio that keeps 50 percent, the usual cut, you get 25 USD. In a studio that keeps 70 percent, the top of the reported range, you get 15 USD. Same evening, same viewers, same work.
This only shows how the money is split. It is not a promise of income. How many tokens you earn depends on you, your schedule and luck. Slow first weeks are normal.
"But I cannot do it alone": every fear, answered
I do not understand the tech
To start, you need a phone with a good camera or a laptop, a lamp or a cheap ring light, and stable internet. That is enough. The site runs in a browser. You can add fancy software later, or never.
My English is weak
Most of the chat is short phrases. For the first months you can get by with a translator app in a second window, a list of ready phrases and a tip menu that speaks for you. Many rooms run in other languages too.
Nobody will find me without a studio
Studios do not bring the viewers. Viewers come from the site itself, and the site shows new models more at the start. Regulars come back for a steady schedule, not for a studio logo.
I have no place to work
This is the one real reason to think about a studio. If you can get a room with a door that locks for a few hours, you have a place to work. If you cannot, read the next section.
Someone I know will see me
You can block whole countries and regions, including your home country and the one you live in. You also use a stage name. But be honest with yourself: recordings can leak on any site, and a studio does not protect you from that.
How will I get paid here?
The site pays you directly. You can get paid by bank transfer or e-wallet, among other ways, and you verify with your own ID. Before you start, check which method works with your bank in Romania.
I am scared to deal with rude viewers alone
You have a ban button, moderation tools and the right to end any show. Before your first stream, write your limits down on paper. In a studio, the pressure to cross them is often higher, not lower.
When a studio can still make sense
A studio can be a fair choice in a few cases: you have no private space at all, you have no device, or you want someone next to you for the first weeks.
If you go, go with your eyes open. Ask who owns the account and what the cut is. Ask about fines, a minimum term and an exit fee. Get the answers in writing. Never hand over your passport or your login.
This may not be for you
Camming is real work, and the downsides are real too. At the start your income goes up and down. It can be hard emotionally, and people may judge you. There is always a risk that your content leaks. If you need guaranteed money next week, or if being recognised would put you in danger, this is not the right path, with or without a studio. It is fine to close this page.
Getting paid and taxes in Romania
For broadcasters outside the US, a third-party guide lists SEPA transfer in EUR to any EU IBAN (about $8.95 fee, $50 minimum), Paxum, CosmoPayment and crypto. We could not open the platform's own help page, so check the payout page inside your account. The account must be in your own name, as verified. Non-citizens can use the same rails; whether every e-wallet onboards every nationality is unverified.
As an independent you declare platform income yourself as income from independent activities in the Declarația unică (form 212), filed online in ANAF's SPV portal; for 2025 income the deadline was 25 May 2026. Per a Romanian tax lawyer's guide you pay 10% income tax, plus 10% health (CASS) and 25% pension (CAS) above minimum-wage-based thresholds; exact thresholds and any 2026 changes are unverified, so ask a local accountant. A PFA (sole trader) is optional and lets you deduct equipment and rent; file at portal.onrc.ro. Since 2024 ANAF receives DAC7 platform reports.
How studios work in Romania
Romania has the densest studio market in Europe. Press estimates run from 500+ to 2,000 studios and up to 5,000 companies, in Bucharest and practically every county seat; there is no official count. Recruitment is loud: pages for "studio videochat" plus a city name, hundreds of job listings; older reporting says studios recruit abroad too.
The standard pitch is 50% commission "rising to 65-80% with performance", a guaranteed first month (about $1,000), free training, a "non-adult" label and fixed 8-hour shifts, often at night. The percentage is of what the studio receives after the platform has taken its share. Older reporting found Bucharest studios keeping 60-75%. Ask before signing: is the percentage of the tokens members pay or of what is left after the platform? Is the account on your ID or the studio's? Minimum term, fines, exit fee? Get it in writing.

Only immigration data exists: about 140,000 non-EU employees at end-2024, roughly 38,000 in Bucharest and Ilfov (IGI via bucharest.ro, Jan 2025), plus EU expats and Cluj's IT crowd, size unverified. English rooms are normal here and your audience is international anyway.
Is it legal for me here: what to check
There is no dedicated videochat law. An adult woman camming alone at home is doing something lawful that has run openly as registered business for two decades (5,000+ companies per a former ANAF head, 2023). Prosecutors (DIICOT) go after coercion: trafficking and pimping, women pushed into cam work by the "loverboy" method or forced to meet clients, plus anything involving minors.
A 2024 bill would have regulated studios (distance from schools, fire permits, fines); it drew negative opinions and we found no evidence it passed, status unverified as of September 2026. Under temporary protection from Ukraine you may work or be self-employed without a permit, valid to 4 March 2027 per UNHCR. On an employer-tied permit your stay covers that job only; whether you may add independent work is unverified, so check your permit first.

Your first week without a studio
- Day 1: create your free account with your own email and verify your age with your own ID.
- Day 2: set up your corner. You need light in front of you, a tidy background and a door that closes. Test the camera.
- Day 3: choose a stage name, write your bio and your limits, and turn on country blocking.
- Day 4: build a simple tip menu and prepare 20 phrases in English.
- Day 5: first stream, one or two hours. The goal is to get comfortable, not to earn.
- Days 6 and 7: pick three fixed time slots for next week and keep them. Regulars come to a schedule.
Common questions
- Is a webcam studio in Cluj-Napoca better than working on my own?
- For most people, no. A studio uses the same sites you can join yourself, but it usually keeps about half of your payout; reported cases range from 30 to 70 percent. A studio mainly makes sense if you have no private room or no device.
- How much does a webcam studio take?
- Usually about half of what the site pays out. Reported cases range from 30 to 70 percent (Human Rights Watch and ICIJ studies of studios in Colombia, 2024, plus reporting on Romania), and fines can cut your share even more. On your own, you keep the whole payout.
- Can I leave a studio and keep my account?
- Often not. In many studios, the studio creates and controls the account, and models who leave start again from zero. If you sign up yourself with your own email and ID, the account is yours.
- What do I need to start without a studio?
- A phone or laptop with a decent camera, a light, stable internet and a private space. You also need a valid ID to prove that you are over 18. Signing up is free.
- Is it legal to work as an independent webcam model in Romania?
- The rules depend on the country and on your residence status. See the local section on this page and check official sources. We do not give legal advice.

Where the numbers come from
The 30-70% range comes from studies of studios in Colombia (HRW, ICIJ 2024) and from reporting on Romania; no comparable study exists for Romania itself. How much studios keep and who owns the account: the Human Rights Watch report on webcam studios in Colombia (2024), the ICIJ investigation of studios in Colombia (2024), and press reporting on studios in Romania. The studio figures come from Colombia and Romania; no comparable study exists for other countries, so treat them as a guide, not as local data.
